Ukraine

It's hard not to think of Russian invasion of Ukraine. While it has little to do with the digital revolution, we feel that the rest of the world must accommodate huge volume of refugees, if civilization is to be preserved. Those in political circle, often cynical, dishonest, and hypocritical, will use the war to justify whatever political view they have, but if civilization can make these dirty political people do some good, it's worth a try. That said, here are some observations of the war.

First, Putin played into the West's hands. Before the invasion, the West was divided and lacked a common purpose. Russian invasion of Ukraine united the West. In some way, Western politicians are content with sacrificing Ukraine to fulfill the revival of the Western block. A new Cold War is almost certainly called for. The worst possible hawks now have their voice crushing any peaceful imagination of future world order. Russians made the same mistake Chinese Communist Party made, that they empowered adversaries rather than reasonable people.

China is on the verge of being decoupled from the West. Before the war, the West already perceive China as a threat. It's convenient to redraw the Cold War map and sack the entire block. While China wants peace and development, the West is now more interested in containing China and crushing Russia. China can prove its value to the West with extraordinary peace efforts in Ukraine matter, but its ruling ideology is too entrenched in antagonizing the West to do anything positive.

USA is the only country that can properly accommodate all refugees in the war, but its politics is holding itself back as civilization's last defense. Sure, there will be problems caused by huge volume of refugees, but compared with the cynicism, dishonesty, and hypocrisy of the Iraq War, caring for refugees seems infinitely superior than utter destruction. The main concern of USA politicians, however, is how to use the war to consolidate the Western block and brush everyone else aside.

The world is in a dark moment. Most people still feel good. It's terrible.
