Shortcomings of Contemporary Smart Telephones

Smart telephones have been released. The device replaces buttons on traditional telephones with a touch screen loaded with apps. Although it's certainly a improvement, one can not but notice the shortcomings of these smart telephones. Touch screen allows contacts and notes to be easily accessed on the telephone, just as mobile phones did. The problem is, just as mobile phones did. Why not use a mobile phone to look up information and a traditional telephone to communicate, when it's almost equally convenient? Contemporary smart telephones add little value to existing configurations.

As noted earlier, the iPhone revolution was not only a UI revolution, but more importantly a personal computing revolution. People do social networking, take photographs with enhancements, and listen to music on the iPhone like never before, in addition to a full-functioning mobile phone. Contemporary smart telephones copied some elements from smartphones without also introducing a platform for home computing or enterprise computing. It's a pitfall. Just imagine listening to music on these awkward smart telephones, and the limitations are obvious. People don't listen to music, don't do social networking, don't take photographs with smart telephones.

It's too cheap.

Here is the key. Since smartphones, tablets, and smart watches champion personal computing, smart telephones must be oriented differently to differentiate.

Successful smart telephones should be designed for home computing or enterprise computing. Social networks, cloud, and telephones can be added to a TV box, so that people may enjoy movies and automatically pause when phone calls arrive. Of course, there is a remote like the iPod Touch for user's convenience to pick up phone calls and possibly to control all smart home devices. FaceTime on TV with a camera provides live experience much like Star Trek. Home social networking lets users arrange dinners and parties, along with what to play on TV during these activities. Possibilities are endless.

Consider the enterprise. With CRM made easy through cloud integration, smart telephones can become a effective marketing tool enterprises would employ. Cloud GTD system helps workers accomplish daily tasks in a timely fashion. A centralized hub can play light music in office and simultaneously communicate with numerous flat-paneled smart telephones for easy centralized management. Calling colleagues is free with Internet telephone. Workplace socializing will be transformed beyond Skype and Microsoft Teams, integrating with notifications, QA, and even ERP.

Hope someday a truly revolutionary smart telephone will appear in the market.
